Skateboard Griptape FAQs

  • What is griptape used for?

Skateboard grip tape allows for enhanced traction by creating friction between the bottom of the skater’s skate shoes and the skateboard deck. This traction and friction allow for a solid grip which also leads to improved board control.

The non-slip surface also gives the skater a sense of stability and helps to reduce the risk of slipping and falling.

As a skater, you can really express yourself with your choice of grip tape too - picking something that speaks for you. If you go for grip tape you like the look of, it’ll also push you to go that extra mile in the skatepark or street or wherever you decide to skate.

Never underestimate the power of reliable grip tape on your setup - it can absolutely make all the difference!

  • Is skateboard griptape easy to clean?

Over time, skateboard grip tape can pick up dirt and debris. This can seriously affect the quality of your ride, hindering the entire setup.

We recommend you use your hands to remove any loose dirt and debris from the grip tape, before removing with the grip gum or using a toothbrush to scrub gently in a circular motion to remove stubborn stains.

You’ll then want to wipe away residue with a clean cloth or paper towel. If the wear and tear on the grip tape seems unfixable, you’ll need to replace it. Discover ‘how to grip a skateboard’ with our guide.

At SkateHut, we offer grip tape to suit all skateboard deck sizes.

  • Can I use griptape on a longboard?

Similarly to skateboards, applying grip tape to your longboard will offer tons of benefits when you’re cruising and making those carves.

You first need to consider the size of your longboard deck and ensure the grip tape fits your longboard correctly. Equally, the grip tape must have adequate strength to ensure it stays stuck onto the surface.

The abrasive texture is designed to prevent riders from slipping or losing control. It’s essential when cruising down steep hills at high speeds.

Be sure to press the grip tape down to remove air bubbles that may form during the application process.
