Will Stunt Scooter Riding Ever be in the Olympics?

As we look back on another decent year of gold medals from TeamGB in Paris 2024, we find ourselves contemplating on what other events would be great to see in future Olympics. Being experts in outdoor action sports, there’s obviously loads of activities which could be great, like roller derby, aggressive inline skating or downhill longboarding. With skateboarding and BMX riding proving popular events, perhaps it’s time we see more sports like these in the Olympics, and one comes specifically to mind: stunt scooter riding.

This sport has grown massively over the past decade, not just in the UK, but all over the world, proving to be physically demanding and incredibly entertaining to watch. We’ve seen loads of amazing competitions with some of the countries top riders, going head-to-head in events like the CORE open, World Championships and even our own Scoot Royale event.

It helps that skateboarding has paved the way for these kinds of sports to be considered in the Olympics, with the only main concern around the level of injuries the competitors could sustain, due to the high-risk factor. With improvements to protection such as durable knee pads and elbow pads, along with helmets that are manufactured from new materials, making them incredibly strong, this risk to injury is limited. Stunt scooter riding is no different, with tricks involving whips and flips, that only the most skilled rider can execute.

The events for stunt scooters would be split into park and street, following the same format for skateboarding, allowing both women’s and men’s heats in both. This would also mean that the venue for skateboarding could be utilised for an additional sport, pulling in further footfall. There are so many competitors who we would love to see in the Olympics, like Jamie Hull, Jordan Clark, Kai Saunders and loads more up and coming riders.

The good news is that the World Skate Director is putting in bid to include stunt scooter riding in the next LA 2028 Olympics, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully one day we will see the urban sports category expand out, providing extra opportunities for TeamGB to bring home more gold and if it does, SkateHut will be there supporting them!
