What the Olympics means for Skateboarding in 2024

Paris 2024 marked the second time skateboarding featured as a competitive event in the Olympics, proving to be a challenging sport with a high skill requirement. This is all as a result from the bid for inclusion back in September 2015, with skateboarding making the shortlist alongside softball, karate and surfing. The main concern around skateboarding as an event was the type of injuries competitors could potentially receive during their run, but the sport had been accepted as an official event for the 2020 games in Japan, paving the way for a rise in popularity and exposure.

Since the last two games however, the sport has really shown the talent of skateboarders from around the globe, with obvious focus on American skaters, but also showing the skills from Japan, Australia and Brazil. And of course, let’s not forget our own homegrown talent, representing TeamGB, achieving a second bronze in Paris 2024, showing that Britain is a home to the skateboarding culture and community, which of course we already knew, here at SkateHut!

Following the most recent skateboarding events, the medal table is starting to look busy, with a total of 24 medals won so far. Australia have been dominating in the park events winning 3 golds in total, while Japan takes the lead on the street events, taking 4 golds.
