Spikeball is one of the fastest-growing phenomena in the world of modern ball games and it’s available here at SkateHut. As one of the most original ball game concepts of recent years, the Spikeball Game boasts ultimate accessibility for users of all ages. Spikeball is a fun, active, and competitive game that has been called a combination of volleyball and four square. The Spikeball Standard Kit brings fun for the whole gang. Perfect for gardens, beaches, parks, you can truly play anywhere. You can always find people to play with by downloading the free Spikeball app, which helps you connect with nearby players and pick-up games.

Each set includes three balls, a playing net, storage bag, and rule book. You can play with between 4 - 6 players in teams of two. The aim of the game is to serve in a way that makes it hard for the opposing team to serve the ball back. The teams line up across from each other with the net separating them. The game will be played until one of the teams fails to pass the ball, when the ball bounces more than once on the net or when a player double hits the ball. If none of these moves are made, then the game is played out until the first team reaches 21 points. We also offer two variations of Spikeball UK with the Spikeball Rookie and the Spikeball Pro.

With all the same capabilities as the Spikeball UK Standard, the Spikeball Rookie offers more net for added fun. With its 50% larger frame, 6 legs, 6 rims, and 1 larger ball, the Rookie makes it much easier to learn the basics. Or if you’ve covered the basics and you’re ready to step up your game, the advanced Spikeball Pro set features a sturdier body design to keep the set stable and the net taut during the harshest of plays. Spikeball set FAQs

  • What is Spikeball?

Spikeball is a popular sports game that combines elements of volleyball and four-square. It is played with a small, circular net placed on the ground, and the objective is to hit a small ball onto the net in such a way that the opposing team cannot return it. The game is typically played in teams of two, with each team taking turns to hit the ball up to three times before it must be bounced off the net towards the opposing team.

The Spikeball game is fast-paced and highly dynamic, as players can move around the net freely, allowing for creative shots and strategies. The net is set at a height that makes it challenging to return the ball, requiring quick reflexes, agility, and good hand-eye coordination.

Spikeball has gained popularity as a recreational and competitive sport, with organised tournaments and leagues held around the world. It can be played both indoors and outdoors on various surfaces, including grass, sand, or gym floors. The game is known for its social and inclusive nature, making it enjoyable for players of different ages and skill levels.

  • Can You Play Spikeball with 2 Players?

Yes, two players can play Spikeball. While the game is typically played with teams of two, it is possible to have a game with just two players. In this case, the rules remain the same, except each player would perform the roles of both serving and receiving, taking turns to hit the ball onto the net and return it. The objective is still to score points by making it difficult for the opponent to return the ball. Playing Spikeball with two players can still be fun and challenging, but having four players on two teams allows for more dynamic gameplay and strategic teamwork.

  • How to Play Spikeball?

To play Spikeball, you'll need a Spikeball set, which typically includes a circular net, a small ball, and the necessary equipment for assembly. Here are the basic rules and steps to play the game:

    1. Set up the equipment: Place the Spikeball net on a flat playing surface, such as grass, sand, or a gym floor. Ensure that the net is taut and level.

    2. Form teams: Divide players into two teams of two. Each team will take turns serving and hitting the ball.

    3. Starting the game: The serving team begins the game by standing next to the net. The server holds the ball and starts the point by hitting or serving the ball into the net.

    4. Serve and return: The serving team serves the ball by hitting it down onto the net so that it rebounds up towards the opposing team. The opposing team then has up to three hits (like in volleyball) to return the ball back onto the net.

    5. Bounce off the net: The objective is to hit the ball onto the net in a way that makes it challenging for the opposing team to return it. When hitting the ball, players must alternate hits with their teammate, as the ball must be bounced off the net within three hits.

    6. Play continues: After the initial serve, the game proceeds similarly to volleyball. The ball is hit back and forth between the teams, with each team trying to strategically position themselves and hit the ball in a way that makes it difficult for the other team to return it.

    7. Scoring: Points are scored when a team fails to return the ball onto the net within their three hits, or if they hit the ball out of bounds. The opposing team earns a point, and the teams switch sides. The first team to reach a certain score (often 11 or 21) with a minimum lead of two points wins the game.

    8. Rotation: After each point is scored, the teams rotate positions in a clockwise direction around the net. This ensures that each player gets a chance to serve and defend from different angles.

Remember, these are the basic rules of Spikeball, but there may be variations and additional rules in organised tournaments or when playing with specific rulesets. It's always a good idea to clarify any additional rules before starting a game. Read SkateHuts official Spikeball Rules.

  • What are some tactics I can use when playing Spikeball?

Communication and teamwork is key when it comes to playing Spikeball. Good communication makes a good team and a good team wins games. By communicating effectively, you can coordinate a strategy and anticipate your opponents’ moves and dominate the game. Players can also strategically position themselves in competitive positions to return the ball in a way that efficiently scores points. You can also work on your reaction time and ability to anticipate, as anticipation is key. It is essential for you to get a grasp of knowin what move your opponent will play before they do it so that you can get into position and use this positioning to your advantage.

It is also important to work on your shot variety and placement, for example, you will need to get used to drops, lobs, spikes and redirects, but also ensuring you can place these shots adequately too. Last but not least, you need to be adaptable and change your strategy to align with the circumstances of the current game and situation.

  • Can I play Spikeball indoors?

Yes, you can play Spikeball indoors as long as you take the necessary precautions. You will first of all want to ensure you have enough space to play safely, ensuring you move any objects that could act as a trip or collision hazard well out of the way. Also be sure to make sure any valuable items are cleared well away to prevent running into, hitting or smashing items, which could also cause injury to players. Next, you will want to make sure that the floor you are playing on isn’t slippery, to avoid unnecessary trips that could cause injury. You may also need to adapt your style of play to cater for the changes that come with having a game of Spikeball indoors, such as dealing with the lighting and confined spaces.
