Thrasher King of the Road 2018

Another year, another Thrasher King of the Road! 2018 saw no exception to the gnarliest challenge in the history of skateboarding.

Element, Real, and Foundation skateboarders were this year’s contenders, and they did not disappoint. Thrasher editors Michael Burnett and Jake Phelps came through with a ridiculous book of challenges as always, leading the teams do tricks that range from ground-breaking to just plain stupid.

Thrasher sorted out some top of the range mystery guests, with Foundation getting Toy Machine’s pro rider Axel Cruysberghs, Real gained Birdhouse pro and four times King of the Road winner Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, and Element Skateboards took on Deathwish pro and 2017 Skater of the Year Jamie Foy. Of course there were loads of other huge names in skateboarding across the trip, including industry heavyweights such as Louie Barletta, Jamie Thomas and Bam Margera.

Highlights throughout the trip included Real’s tribute to the late Thrasher videographer and skateboarding legend P-Stone, Zion Wright’s insane ‘Longest Kinked Rail’ challenge, the half-way meet up point dirt board race, and Kyle Walker’s huge 180 over a fence gap!

As is tradition with King of the Road, a few of the lucky am’s on the teams turned pro. First up this year was an emotional Zion Wright getting his pro board for Real Skateboards right after he completed a number of hefty challenges, as well as Element am Tyson Peterson being snuck up on at the very end of the tour with his own pro board!

At the end of the trip, everyone met back up for a few more last minute challenges and the awards ceremony. Unsurprisingly, Element’s Evan Smith took the MVP award, having racked up the most points of any person on the trip. Foundation took third place, Real took second and Element came out on top, winning themselves $50,000 and the next Thrasher Mag cover!
